Here is something that is an important tool to help deal with problem debt.
Debt is soul crushing, mind numbing, and emotionally destructive. It’s easy to get sucked into the dark pit of despair and feel as if your life is hopeless.
The secret weapon of those emotional feeling is free and readily available – gratefulness.
Instead of being a magnet for all the negative emotional energy that being down can attract, you can find happiness in doing things for others, even people you don’t know. Simple acts of gratitude can return unending returns.
Just hold a door open, say good morning to a stranger, or do something else just to make the day of someone else a bit brighter. Doing good things is a treatment plan to help you lift your day up from the depths of your debt.
So here is the secret. Since 2008, or maybe even before, I’ve participated with the nonprofit group Kiva. Kiva describes themselves by saying, “We are a non-profit organization with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. Leveraging the internet and a worldwide network of microfinance institutions, Kiva lets individuals lend as little as $25 to help create opportunity around the world.”
Kiva allows you to help someone you don’t know to have a chance to better their life and lift themselves from poverty.
The small lending team I started has done some amazing things to help a lot of people. Since the start, we’ve helped 418 people to have the chance to improve their lives. Here are the types of things we’ve helped people with.
I’d love to invite you to the GetOutOfDebt.org lending team, become a member, help someone else, get repaid, and feel good about what you did. Click here to become part of the team.
The Power of Gratitude
“Debt happens and bad debt happens to good people. Debt is debt, it is not the sum of your life and it certainly does not define you. Your actions define you. Your kindness and gratitude define you.”
From Chapter 6 – The 10 Attributes of Internal Prosperity
“You know someone has achieved internal prosperity if they are grateful for the life they have. So, if someone else does something kind for you, be grateful. The only thing you are entitled to in life is…let’s see…nothing. That’s right. Everything more than nothing is a blessing in your life. Be thankful and grateful for whatever kindness or good fortune comes your way. A key attractor for money is gratitude. Those who are ungrateful often get the garbage that life dumps.”
From You Can Find Happiness Even Being in Debt
“Being grateful for the small things in life is both free and a blessing. And like the video above I believe it is a guaranteed key for finding happiness and joy, even in the darkest of times.”
From 12 Steps to a Happy New You
“My number one tip is to be thankful for what you have. When you focus on the good things in your life, you are less likely to dwell on the negative. Having a gratitude attitude creates an abundance of blessings in your life and leads to more happiness.”
From I’m Drowning in Debt. How Can I Find Peace So I Can Be Happy? – Saskia
“Now there are things that you might be able to do to find some peace with your situation, such as practicing gratitude for all the good things in your life and being grateful for the benefits of a good relationship and a loving partner.”
